Apple Announces the iPad

Apple has just announced the iPad, its latest touchscreen device and first foray into tablet computers.

The iPad is a cross between a laptop and a smartphone, capable of running applications and tasks that function on the iPhone except it has a larger screen. The LCD measures at a comfortable 9.7 inches. Complete dimensions round up with a weight of 1.5 pounds and a half-inch thickness. The iPad comes with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB  of storage, starting at $499 for the 16GB model, $599 for the second and $699 for the last. All of them will have Wi-Fi capabilities.

The iPad will come with apps built specifically for the device, including Apple’s iWork productivity suite. An e-book reader called iBooks will also ship with the device. The company also provided an updated SDK for iPhone developers so they can update their apps to work with the iPad. Expect the device to arrive this April.
